My name is Melanie Beirne, and I’m delighted to share my journey with you. With over 23 years of leadership experience, I am deeply committed to coaching and building high-performing leaders and leadership teams.

I am one of the few preferred providers nationwide for Aotearoa’s Leadership Development Centre (LDC), delivering to the public service the Senior System Leader Development programme, Leaders of Leaders programme, the Experienced Leaders Programme, and the New People Leader programme. I have also achieved pre-qualified “coach” status. Leadership is my passion, and I am driven to ensure we have exceptional leaders serving the public service through this critical partnership with LDC.

As a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, I believe that strengths-based coaching is the most powerful way to enable people to reach their full potential. I build leaders and teams that recognise their unique power and edge and step forward with direction, impact and success.

Transforming intention into action

One of my key ambitions is to radically accelerate the leadership capacity of women and create a robust women in leadership pipeline. I am the founder of Women Step Forward (Wāhine Mā Rere Ki Runga), a platform I designed to empower and equip women with the expertise to become high-performing leaders.

Through my work as a speaker, I’m committed to shining a light on our next generation of women leaders and have expertise in building leaders who can lead in a multi-generational workplace.

It takes a village

As a person of Pākehā and Māori descent (Ngāi Tahu), I am passionate about Te Ao Māori and revitalising our beautiful language, Te Reo Māori. I strive to integrate Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori into my leadership practice and everyday life. Currently enrolled in the New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki Reo Rua) (Level 2) at Whitireia Polytechnic, I am committed to playing my part to keep our language alive.

I proudly wear multiple hats – entrepreneur, leader, facilitator, coach and Māmā of two. Ko Amber rāua ko Sophia āku tamāhine – Amber and Sophia are my daughters. They are my inspiration. Building better leaders means my Tamariki and moko to come will be cared for when they enter the workplace.
